Application of Catalytic BioElectrolysis technology to the treatment of urban wastewater.
The main objective of the project is the development of a pilot-scale biocatalytic electrolysis reactor for use in urban wastewater treatment. This prototype must fulfil a dual function: on the one hand, it must eliminate a considerable amount of soluble organic matter contained in the treated water by means of the catalytic action of certain types of bacteria. On the other hand, it must transform the energy content of this organic matter into hydrogen, a fuel of great interest due to the new energy trends in which hydrogen plays an important role as the energy vector of the future.
